what constitutes a fly in fishing? is it a resemblance to a natural/ ie in a sedge, hopper or buzzer or would you class "flies" used for salmon fishing the same or should salmon "flies" not be considered as lures as they dont seem to resemble any insects that i know of :worms

I think everyone has their own definition of this.  Mine is fishing and fly casting with a fly rod, fly line and artificial flies be they nymphs, dries, lures, blobs or whatever.

basically i think the same about ie fly rod ,ly reel, and something on the end of the cast, but then you come to harling for example, is this fly fishing?
