French Partridge are larger than the common partridge, the barred flank feathers are often used as hackles for wet mayflies especialy on Irish loughs.However, all the wing feathers are a dirty olive-grey in color. The marginal coverts are very useful indeed for hackling small trout flies. Suitable for any fly requiring an olive-grey hackle. Also as substitutes for other scarce hackle. They are easily dyed using waterproof marker. These make much better substitutes than hen hackles for a number of flies
