Vermont Hare's Ear

This is the Vermont Hares Ear. I?ve never fished it and don?t know anything about it other than it?s a Dry Caddis pattern from the USA. I found it while flicking through one of my books and thought ?Ooh I like the look of that? What drew me to it was, one, it looks ?fishy?, two, it?s easy to tie and three, I quite fancy it Ginked up and pulled/skated like a muddler or sedge type fly. See what you think and give it a go, and if any one knows its history etc, please let us know.



Instructions assume right-handed tyers

HOOK ? Partridge Oliver Edwards Emerger K14ST
THREAD ? Rusty Brown 12/0 Bennechi
BODY ? 50/50 MIX Hares Ear and Australian Opossum (I don?t have any Opossum, so used Muskrat under fur instead)
HACKLES ? Red Game and Grizzle tied full and clipped.

STEP 1
            Wrap the thread down round the bend and apply a fairly large pinch of dubbing to the thread.



STEP 2
             Wrap to form the body, leaving about 1/3rd -1/4th of the shank for the hackle



STEP 3
             Tie the two hackles in on top of the shank.



STEP 4
              Wrap the hackles, form the head and whipfinish.



STEP 5
            Clip the hackle short all the way round for the completed fly.



STEP 6
           Keep us informed of its success or lack off.
