This is the Persuader, designed by John Goddard. In the book Trout Flies of  Stillwater he describes how he wanted a nondescript fly that had to be large to attract the attention of trout from a reasonable distance, it had to have an attractive colour combination, a succulent body and finally, to at least loosely resemble some of the more common food forms. I think he succeeded and from my experiences, the trout agree.
I prefer this one unweighted, but if you want you can weight it.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Kamasan B800 #10
THREAD ? Orange 8/0
BODY ? 5 White Ostrich Herls
RIB ? Oval Silver Tinsel
WING-CASE ? Any Dark Feather Fibre (I have used Turkey here)
THORAX ? Orange Seals Fur

STEP 1
Attach the thread and wrap to the hook bend, catching in the rib as you go.

STEP 2
Catch in the herls and wrap the thread to the shoulder.

STEP 3
Twist the herls into a rope and wrap to form the body.

STEP 4
Follow with the rib.

I give the body a rub with Velcro at this point to free any fibres caught with the rib.

STEP 5
Tie in the thorax cover.

STEP 6
Apply some dubbing to the thread and wrap to form the thorax.

STEP 7
Finally, pull the thorax cover over and tie off. Trim the waste, form a neat head, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.
