Depending on the hackle colour, size or how you trim this fly it can be used to imitate Nymph, Dun, spinner or Sedge. Versatile and simple!
I?ve tied it and trimmed it here as I would for either a small generic Dun or as a spent caenis.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Kamasan B410 #20
THREAD ? Black Hends Synton
TAIL ? Grizzle Hackle Fibres
BODY/THORAX/WINGS ? Silver Badger Cock

STEP 1
Mount the hook in the vice, attach the thread and tie in the hackle. The hackle should be oversized.

STEP 2
Wrap the thread to the hook bend catching in the tail fibres as you go.

After tying in use a couple of figure of eight wraps to split the tails.

STEP 3
Palmer the hackle in touching turns and tie off at the tails.

STEP 4
Wrap the thread through the palmered hackle to the head. Then whipfinish and detach the thread.

STEP 5
Using scissors trim the hackles fibres underneath completely and from the abdomen area to make your Dun imitation.

Or trim the hackles on top as well to make your Spent imitation.

To make the nymph, trim the abdomen as above and trim the sides and  below the thorax area leaving a few fibres as legs. Finally trim above the thorax area leaving slightly longer fibres, then slick them down with a little varnish to form the thorax cover.

To make the Sedge simply trim the hackle fibres underneath completely, then trim the hackles on top in to a typical sedge shape.
