I?ve been tying a few of these up for a swap on another board, so I thought I might as well do a sbs on it.
It?s a fairly simple tie, but don?t let its simplicity fool you into thinking it won?t be effective! Fish often find spiders irresistible.

Instructions assume right handed tyers.

HOOK ? TMC 100 #20
THREAD ? Black Synton
BODY ? Fine Copper Wire
THORAX ? Peacock Herl
HACKLE ? Starling

STEP 1
Attach the thread and make 2 or 3 wraps.

STEP 2
Prepare the hackle for tying in by stripping the flue from the base of the stem.

Then tie in on top of the hook with the concave (inner) side facing up. Taking the thread down the body, catch in the rib under the hook, returning the thread back to the shoulder.

STEP 3
Wrap the wire to form the body and tie off.

STEP 4
Tie in one strand of Peacock Herl.

Then make 2 or 3 wraps to form a small thorax and tie off.

STEP 5
Wrap the hackle and tie off. You can vary the number of turns of hackle you make to suit. Here I have made two wraps.

STEP 6
Finally, form a small head, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.
