Saw this pattern in John Roberts ?Guide to River Trout Flies? and thought some of you might like it. According to Roberts it?s an American pattern of British origin. He also states that Swisher and Richards said it was the greatest hackled fly! So it should be good, I certainly like it.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Partridge Sedge/ Caddis X-long (YK12ST)  #10
THREAD ? Olive 6/0
BODY ? Palmered Grizzle Cock
UNDER-WING ? Lemon Woodduck
WING ? Grey Mallard
HEAD HACKLE  - Red Game Cock.

STEP 1
Attach the thread then tie in the palmer hackle at the 1/3 point.

Then continue wrapping the thread to the bend. If you prefer you can tie the hackle in, by the tip, at this point.
I prefer the way I have tied it in because I have the added security of ribbing through the hackle with the tying thread.

STEP 2
Wrap the hackle in touching turns to the bend and tie off.

Then wrap through the hackle with the tying thread.

STEP 3
Tie in a bunch of Lemon Woodduck for the under-wing.

STEP 4
Tie in the over-wing. These should be tied in so that they drape down the side of the body rather than on top like a traditional wet fly.

STEP 5
Tie in the head hackle.

STEP 6
Finally, form a small head, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.
