You can?t go wrong with black, especially early season. This was designed by Bob Church and there are few better black lures. It was originally designed to copy some early season caddis larvae, but is now more commonly fished as a general attractor.
The original dressing has a beard of black hackle fibres, I don?t bother with them and fish haven?t noticed.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Kamasan B800 #10
THREAD ? Black 6/0
RIB ? Medium Flat Silver Tinsel
BODY ? Black Chenille
WING ? 4 Black Cock Hackles.

STEP 1
Attach the thread and wrap to the hook bend, catch in the tinsel as you go.

STEP 2
Prepare the chenille by stripping the fibres with your fingers to expose the core.

Then tie in and take the thread to the shoulder.

STEP 3
Wrap the chenille to form the body and tie off.

STEP 4
Wrap the rib in evenly spaced turns and tie off.

STEP 5
Take 4 cock hackles, measure for length then strip all the fibres from the stem below the tie in point.

Tie in on top of the shank.

STEP 6
Finally trim the waste, form a neat head, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.
