A bonny reel, but I think I might give it a miss at that price.

It's probably made in China for a tenner.

The Orvis annual accounts will show that advertising is 40% of annual expenditure.
That said, I have a rod and five reels from them !

It looks like a cheap copy of a Maxcatch.

I will say that Orvis gear is good. I have a pair of Orvis wading boots that I have used for years AND survived a trip to NZ.

Until you have been to NZ you can't even begin to understand what the phrase "hard on boots" means

I have (at least!) Orvis rods, reels, lines, waders and wading boots – plus a fair few clothing items. Very happy with them all. The only Orvis item I dislike is their tippet material.
I recently damaged one of their clip-on watches that I was given as a present years ago. I asked about a repair but was sent a new one :D.
I tend to buy when I get a voucher or one of their special offers.

I'd a pretty dear pair of Orvis waders, barely lasted a season & leaked like a sieve right from the off.... Never again!

I no longer buy expensive waders George. The Magreel breathable waders I bought on Amazon have had a full, hard season on wader destroying  burns  and are still OK, no leaks. They were about £50

I have a pair of the Ultralights that have done me for the last 2 seasons - mainly for float tubing. No problems at all and most impressed with how comfortable they have been when walking in them in the heat.

I'd honestly have been better off wet wading, funnily enough one of the guys who fishes with me regularly gave me a pair of cheap Chinese waders that were a bit too big on him in the spring, fitted me like a glove & I've been dry as a bone ever since.

Even if the cheepos only last one season it's the way to go George.

I think "Lunan" must be Pictish for brambles

I have a few Orvis reels, one of their rods, a pack and have had a pair of their waders.

I understand their more expensive kit is US made. The reels I have are probably Chinese made but they are very good bits of kit which I would happily recommend. On the waders, they started leaking after about one season of light use, but Orvis replaced these with new ones at no cost.

Seems this level of customer service is becoming more common, but Orvis has always been great in my experience.

They are (or at least were) renowned for customer service. The Banchory shop once replaced a pair of wading boots for me after a year when they started to come apart. The shop assistant then was Ben - can't remember his second name -  but I was in the shop one day and happened to mention the boots. He gave me an new pair there and then. I still have those boots.
