Title: East Lothian adders
Post by: Dunbar on July 27, 2010, 10:45:20 PM
I took a brief stroll a couple of miles out of Dunbar today and was pleasantly surprised to come across a large number of adders out sunning themselves. I haven't seen an adder for years, but in the space of 15 minutes I spotted 8, just off the path. Some were bundled very closely together, making the most of the sun's rays. Some of the snakes were quite large, i'd estimate nearly two feet, and were beautifully marked. I'll try and upload some photos later.

Were they on the coast Dunbar or inland towards Lammermuirs? Seen them last year in Woodhall Dean.

Waa, that's where I saw them. Lots of good adder habitat in the area, johnmuir park also looks good with the heather and bracken down there. Might have a poke around there while it is still warm. I also found a full moulted skin up at whiteadder reservoir the other week.
