Title: First Bat
Post by: River Chatter on February 28, 2011, 07:21:56 PM
Saw my first bat on the wing last night at dusk in East Kilbride, which seems early to me, especially given EK's altitude.  Anyone seen one earlier in the year up and about?

Saw one on the 19th when I was fishing a wee local stream in South Devon, thought he was out awfy early and during the day too.

It has been milder here than up North and it was a better Sunny day with temps about 12/13C.

He did seem to be getting a few insects of the water so I hope he makes it.

Had one brought into work on Saturday - had been found lying on top of folks car as they headed off to town n the morning.

Spotting one on the wing of a car doesn't count as 'on the wing' Moray

Saw a few in january down here one mild afternoon. Apparantly. like with hedgehogs its not to uncommon for some to wakeup early from hibernation and go off on a forage. unfortunately they wont find any food and will not have the energy to get through the rest of the winter.m
