Garden birds today

It must have been something for a record for my garden today. lots of birds of different types around around the feeders and underneath where the seeds had fallen to the ground.

Long tailed tits,
blue tits
coal tits
great tits
chaffinch
siskin
dunnock
house sparrow
robin
brambling
wood pigeon
blackbird
goldfinches

All in the space of 15 minutes

Unfortunately the light was appalling with low cloud and fog so couldn't get any decent picures despite playing about with settings. However here's a couple

I don't remember ever seeing Bramblings in the flesh, Malcolm.

Newest visitor to the garden this year was a Goldcrest.

Not had the long tailed tit in the garden,but have the others,plus a pair of tree sparrows,doves and a rook.

My Dad & I both saw a Brambling on his bird table on Boxing day, a first for both of us.
The Reed Buntings are vuisiting his table agaon this year as well

That's a good selection of visitors Malcolm. Try as I might I have never had that varied selection visit my table. Leave a god selection of food, seed, Far balls, suet feeder peanuts & crushed digestive biscuits. The biscuits they love. probably a high fat content.

Sparrow Hawk , but that snaffled a Starling from the top of my garden hut so does not count. Funnily enough this is the second time I have seen this happen in the last few years, First time it got a Blackbird in next doors garden. My row of back gardens must be on it's hunting path.

Think it a bit more difficult in urban gardens, next doors moggie doesn't help. I keep a loaded water pistol for him.
Tell you one thing though that wee Robin is a bad wee besterd, chases away all the smaller birds.
Survival of the fittest I guess.

We've had very little variety of garden visitors compared to other years - just hordes of starlings and half a dozen blackbirds. There has a single chaffinch knocking around for a few weeks and a solitary turnstone re-appeared on Boxing day (he was here on his own most of last winter too).

Haven't seen a single robin all winter. Last year we often had three at once and they spent so much time arguing with each other that they could hardly get anything eaten.

Laid out the bait and watched for an hour today-
Long Tailed, Blue, Coal, Great and Crested tits.
Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Gold and Bull Finch.
Siskin, Sparrow, Robin, Balckbird.
Wren, Pied and Yellow Wagtail.
Sparrowhawk.
