Title: recharging batteries while camping
Post by: hugo on June 29, 2006, 06:45:07 PM
I am heading up to Assynt in July with a tent and am pondering the problem of keeping my camera battery charged up. I will have a car and was wondering whether any one on the board had experience of adapters that turn the 12v from the cigarette lighter into 240v for use with a normal charger.

Are these any good? Or is there a better alternative??

Any insight is gratefully appreciated!!

How long are you going for? I did a week without changing batteries on my Fuji S7000. I took approx. 118 pictures and one movie and took more pictures after I came home before replacing the rechargeables. Just take a spare reload and some normal batteries or get the cigarette adaptor for your charger.

After rereading your post I am talking about AA batteries, are you meaning a power pack recharger?

Hugo,

I can suggest an alternative.  I use a Hahnel HSC-104 charger which is supplied with both a mains lead and a 12volt car lead.  It also comes complete with 4 Ni-Mh batteries.  The charger will charge 2 or 4 batteries in about 3 hours.  Price around ?25.
Hope this helps.
