Title: Hackles and Gnats

Of particular interest here are the three hackles on the bottom row. These are the hackles Cholmondely-Pennell invented for his crazy "system" of fly-fishing, a brown a yellow and a green. He did not invent any others. Why he is credited with the Black Pennell, etc  which bear his name is something of a mystery. I can only concldude that people don't read his books, or indeed other books which criticise his nonsense.

Here are the links to the available scans;

The link to the Orvis Marbury book is also at the bottom. This has good quality plates;

I removed my post as the forum software is messing up the link.

I see it has done the same with your second link in the above post Mike.

Indeed. I don't know why. We did a little bit of jiggery-pokery in this reference section for various reasons, and that might be causing it.

I will post in the tying section and see if that solves it.

I have most of them as books, but I like to look at and compare all the various editions, or as many as I can, some differ considerably, and this would be prohibitively expensive if I had to buy all the books.  The scans are extremely useful for a variety of reasons.
