What would your recommendation be for a vice under £100 and why?

Fishtales

I have this Regal spring vice that I have had for years. It is sturdy, easy to use and was cheap when I bought it. here it is with my homemade gallows tool :)

Similar to that vice but with a head rotation is the Veniards Regent No4 vice. Very robust, easy to use and a good price. Will last a lifetime.

Never saw the point of the rotating heads.

Rotation very handy indeed for doing throat hackles, flip the fly upside down, putting on cheeks, easily checking the other side, varnishing the head all round and all sorts of things. Gives much more flexibility once you use one.

Got to agree with you Bobfly.

I didn't think I woukd use the rotation much but the points you make are all sound.

I have seen some use the rotation to rib with, not so sure about that.... I like the old fashion way but this may just be down to how I learned to tie.

I got a True Rotary vice on ebay for £60.

It's not as aesthetically pleasing as some, but some cost thousands....

All I wanted was some rotating jaws that would hold a hook and that's what it does.

I have spent more money on 1 Cape than I did for that vice, just don't tell my missus how much all that stuff costs, she still thinks they are a fiver each.

You will not save much money, that's for sure, but it is a good pastime. Good to get a few troots on your own tyings.
