Not exactly a swap this time.
How about we tie five flies each of the same pattern, everybody ties a different pattern, or size of one already being tied, and we send them all to Stephen to get him started.
Fred will contact each of you who want to participate with an address to send them to and then he will pass them on to Stephen.
All flies to be in by the 19th August, that gives you all three weeks.
I will tie my Hill Loch Nymph on a size 14, anybody else?
Great idea. Let's encourage the laddie to forget aboot these baggie minnins and dae some real fishing!
To give variety, I?ll do 6 flies, 2 of each of 3 varieties all size 12 (good all round)
2 Pearly Zulu
2 Black Pennel
2 Silver Butcher
thanks alot all of you, this would be a great help and also it is only a few days after my birthday:D so it would be an ideal present, thanks for anyone who participates

I bet you don't read the instructions on packets either :)
I said
FIVE of the same pattern, what's the use of two if he loses them, at least with five he can save one to show the shop what he wants :)
Not only that but what is everybody else going to tie now you have monopolised three patterns :)
I did read what you posted Sandy, but if only you and me participate he would only have 2 different flies :). He isn't going to be able to get most of these flies in a shop anyway but they will at least give him some idea of what to look out for. Everyone should tie what they feel is the best combination for them using their judgment.
No problem Fred, I was only teasing hence the smilies.
Superb idea Sandy :D the young is our fishing future :D I'm in :D
All the best
Chris.
Me too,
As long as Fred sends me a couple of Fred -Hogs, and Sandy sends a couple of nymphs for Laidon.  cause im just a young angler as well and I think aboot fishin the minnow as well.................yes i'm a chancin ba@*?rd :D :D
All the best
Richy

Quote from: unclebooOh aye, I suppose every bugger on this forum will be wanting one.
Well the last bampot that could perform miracles like that was a joiner, no a bloody plumber :D
Ok Boo,it was worth a shot

Chris.
nope, i was just kidding on, i have an old one, with a winfield reel
Box For The Flies
Right, I have got a fly box for Stephen?s flies. I bought this on ebay at a reasonable price and used the forum donations account to pay for it. This means everyone who has donated to the forum has chipped in a wee bit for the box.
When I get your flies, I will populate the box and send it to Stephen for his birthday present.
By the way, my own birthday is on December 20th, I don?t expect anything extravagant from you chaps, something like a Toyota Land Cruiser ( like Pearly?s) will do nicely
Stephen,
when all the flies are in I will need your home address so I can send them off. Please make sure you get your parents permission to give this information. Let them know what is happening and they can have a look here on the forum to put their minds at rest that you are not in the clutches of a bunch of weirdos. If they want to they can contact me by email.
Nice choice Fred.
As far as the Land Cruiser goes I PM'd you about that :)
To Stephens parents.
Anybody who goes wandering up hill, over moors through rivers, being eaten alive by midges, clegs and tics for fish that most people use for bait and then put them back has got to be a bit weird. I know what Fred means though, if you have concerns then we can set up a meeting with you and hand them over that way. I am sure you must live close to someone on the forum.
Count me in as well!
Quote from: fishtalesI am sure you must live close to someone on the forum.
Sandy, Not so sure that is a great idea. I recall Stephen mentioning Port Glasgow, and I believe there are a lot of Celtic supporters down that way who have been 'disorientated' by last nights result in the champions league qualifiers. It might not be safe to go down that way for several months yet. That?s the beauty about Aberdeen, never have problems like that.
its ok, my parents know i am a regular on this forum and richy sent me a few flies a couple of months ago, so they know that you are decent guys
thanks a lot fred and to everyone participating.
as soon as i can i will be making a donation to this website for all the help i have received. i enjoy coming onto this forum and learning about the real fishing that people go for and cant wait until i can drive and be able to go for the "real fishing".

Dinnae be daft laddie. Hell, I have two lads of my own so am well used to supplying tackle and poor quality fishing advice to teenagers. Don?t worry about donations, leave that to the mega-rich guys like Swithun, Allan, Sandy and the others.
Quote from: SwithunHello
Don? be shy Swithun, come on now. Multiple fishing holidays north of the border and away to Norway? Wish to hell I?d studied accountancy now.
just so you all know it is lochs that i fish and i don't think i will fish rivers for a while
The flee box has arrived. It is a cracker.
So just to recap, who is tying what flees?

i was wondering if anyone would be able to do a couple of zulus please?
i don't think my local tackle shop have them so was wondering if someone could tie those?

Listen!! Stephen is going to have so many flies he will be able to open his own tackle shop :) How is he meant to know when to fish them, how to fish them and what they are called. It looks to me as if we are going to have to have a "Teach Stephen Fly Fishing Argos Tent Weekend" :)
well i would love to go one of the trips. but i have'nt got a car and i'm not really spoiled for choice for lochs where i live :P
Green tailed wingless wickhams and charlie mclean's from me :D and a few other wee killer's  i hope :D

Once the collection is assembled I will take a photo and put it on. So get your flies in chaps!
Just got back from a week in Derbyshire (chalkstreams stocked with bows  :x  ) and caught up on this. put me down for some CDC spent spinners. I usually tie these on 14 or 16 hooks - abut right for stillwaters?
Will get Steven's flies in the post first thing monday morning admin :D been very busy lately, hope this is ok.
All the best
Chris.
Nae bother Chris
Already got Swithuns, roberth?s, sandfly?s, uncleboos, richy?s (and mine)

Flies in the post, Fred. I don't rely on the Cupar PO - too much gets lost, so posted in Entyburg yesterday.

5 x Hillloch Nymph size 14
Remember everybody all flies to be with Fred by the 19th, only four days left :)

Got Sandy?s flies today and ptimid?s yesterday, all crackers.
The box is filling up, the last few still to come will just about fill it completely.
Stephen,
PM me with your address please
Got Chris? flees today ? what a cracking load!
We are spoiling that laddie I can tell you, (especially with him being Celtic supporter)
Only Ardbeg and Allan to go and that?s it. The box is almost full.
This is the final day for the fly swap. I will extend the deadline until postal delivery next Tuesday (23rd August) then close it and send the box off to Stephen. Anyone who still wants to send flies after that can PM Stephen for his address and send them directly.
Just got the Ardbeg Doobry collection ? nice!
As the one who started all this I want to thank everybody for sending in their flies. And thank you Fred for taking the time and putting it all together. I hope Stephen has a great time trying out all the flies and that they catch him plenty of fish.
What was the final tally Fred, I know Allan's are still to arrive, and who sent what?
Not counting Allan?s we have 85 flies. Wets and dries (mainly wets)
Don?t ask me who sent what, it was hard enough getting them all in the box!
Uncleboo (Davey) alone sent in about ? a box!
