It is a very good idea, but I have to say I'm struggling to think why you would want a neat muddler type head. Surely surface disturbance is key to why it works?

I saw Oliver Edwards, or Peter Scott at the same demo, doing that. I think Alberto was at that demo too so he might chip in with one of two other uses. They used lighters a for peeping caddis heads, legs of heptagenid nymph legs, melted nylon eyes, deer hair burning and quite a few other purposes. Good technique.
