This seems to work on other fishing forums so what about a fly swap?
Each member who joins in ties 1 pattern for each member, posts them to me I sort them and post them out.
So say 10 people join in they post 10 flies to me and at the end of the swap you get 10 different flies posted back to you.
The theme for this could be a fly that you swear by, (or in my case at  )
Interested?
just reply and we can get this started.
Timetable? how about
Reply to this post within ten days.
Post flies within the next ten days.
Once all flies are in I will post back.
Dont forget to send me your address with your flies.

A great idea Steve.
Count me in
Sounds great, and yes I would be interested.
Richy
Come on the rest of you! :D Steve?s idea is a good one and will help you expand your range of flies. It?s worth a go! Might even help you catch more fish. :D For example I was out fishing with Allan Liddle last week and he put me onto the Green Tailed Kate McLaren. I caught a load of fish on it this week so swapping ideas and flies works!
Quote from: Allan LiddleWhat am i saying this IS in the fly section. Right that's it i'm off tae ma 'scratcher'. :?
Allan Liddle.
For goads sake min, wahken up!
Not sure what you mean by a virtual flee box Allan, :? care to elaborate of give an example?
Good on you Steve. I?m looking forward to seeing that varied lion coq fly.
My fly will not be one of my own inventions, but is one that regularly catches me a lot of wild trout.
Harold?s Grouse and Claret.
Lads,
Nothing exciting from me other than the "Grey Duster" but I am convinced this is the universal dry fly as it always catches.
This has been a great idea Steve
Look forward to my new collection
Richy
Richy,
The grey duster is a goody. I read an article some time ago by the Canadian angler Bob Wyatt and he listed it as a top class dry, especially if the fur body is not ginked and the hackle is. He reckons that makes it sit in the film and is deadly. Apparently they swear by this fly in Ireland.
Fred,
Its a wee boaby dazzler and I fish it from the start to finish of the season. Have yet to find a more productive dry.

Quote from: pocamanMe too
I am adding my deer hair sedge pattern
pocaman
PS my tying skills are quite poor
OK, I?ll add the deadly pearly black spider, one of the best all rounders that even I catch fish on!
By the way my flies will all be the good all round compromise of size 12.
Right that?s my 10 flies tied. They will be posted tomorrow
Holy Feck,
I posted mine this morning and there were only six in the box. I will need to tie another few and post on.
Its Whitburn Gala Day tomorrow so it will be a day or so before the vice has its turn. Sorry lads.............!!!!
Richy
Machair spiders from the North, Ah cannie wait for the postie to come !!!
Richy
Wae all these new flees' the Avon won't know whats going on !!
Steve
Let me know if you have success, and we should only fish the incoming flees for the next wee while just to test them out !!!
Richy
Quote from: pocamanSpent a couple of hours fishing the river
3 trout on the grey duster and 3 on Sandfly's deer hair emerger
pocaman
Which river was that Steve?
Quote from: pocamanIts going to be hard to post these out so many great flies and all that space in my fly box
So Steve, the plot has been laid bare eh? What a great way to get a big box of flies!
Wish I had thought of it :(
Glad to hear that the "Duster" worked for you Steve. Its a wee belter of a fly and It has magnetic qualities.
Can't wait for the new flees to arrive. Please do this again as It gets everyone talking and passes on great info to all us "Wild Uns".
All the best
Richy
Ah cannie wait for the postie to bring the "Cargo" to my door. The annoying thing is that he disnae come till noon.
Work will have to wait on Thursday as I am desperate to throw these flees onto some water.
Many thanks to you Pocaman for getting this thing going and look forward to another one.
Many thanks
Richy
Steve,
Thanks for organising this. Perhaps next time we should all also send you a SAE to save you the cost of postage and cut down on the work just a little? These things do mount up!
Looking forward to the next one!
Postie arrived at 12.30 and the flees are here !! Great selection lads and look forward to giving the Trout a wee look at them too.
Great idea this Steve, and look forward to the next one.
All the Best
Richy
Got the flees, some beaut?s there, waiting for me on my return from Lock Kemp at Whitebridge!
Thanks lads, really appreciated, especially to Steve for organising it all
9.45PM, been up since 5.30AM, a long drive and a long hard day at the bandie wheechin? . I?m awa? tae down a can o? beer then I?m awa? ma bed, see you all tomorrow!
Looks like some of these flees will be getting a weetin? at Lochindorb this Sunday. Problem is if the first ones I tie on work well, will I be able to change them? Think I?ll start with :
Tail : Sandfly?s Partridge and Orange
Middle : Allan?s White bibio emerger
Bob : Pocaman?s Hen de Leon
Then take it from there, perhaps trying the dry grey duster if the troots are jumpin?
Steve, the flies were great, will hopefully give them a wet tomorrow on Loch Lee.
Have had success with Sandfly's Deerhair emerger at Harperrig but hope to give the others a try soon.
The flees were all boaby dazzlers and hope you run this again soon as even the anticipation of a postie bearing gifts was good enough for me !!
Well done and thanks for your effort Steve :)
Richy
Count me in Steve.
Something to do when the black armbands go on.
All the best
Richy
I?ll be in on that too Steve.
Am I too late to join in? I tried a swap on a canadian site and go 40 of the most varied and interesting flies back, the idea is great.
Will any pattern do or is it for wild troots only, stillwater or running?
regards
Peter :D
Think I will go with either a Heather Fly or a Daddy.
Richy
Steve,
Better post your address again, either by PM to the participants, or on here, not everyone might have it.
Perhaps everyone should also send you a SAE, otherwise you will have all the postage to pay.
My fly for the swap will be a small but unconventional ?lure? that looks like something you would expect to see thrown at daft rainbows cowering in some murky dug-out hole that was common agricultural policy set-aside during late 80?s but is now an outstanding example of rural diversification and free enterprise. Don?t be fooled though, the ?Anorexic Variant? is a variation on a pattern given to me by Allan and is a great fly to fish when the troots are sulking deep in bright weather but will nail them in any conditions. During the early season of 2004 it caught loads for me and replaced my old tail fly favourite the Silver Invicta on many occasions.
Quote from: Allan LiddleAnd here's me thinking it was 'Carrie the Purist' as well.
Never thought i'd see the day on Wild Fishing Scotland when a traditional was 'ditched' in favour of a LURE.
What's the world coming to?
By the way Fred Lochinsch was not too bad last weekend. Pity i'd no camera with me though. :D
Allan.
Me a purist? never!
That?s OK about the photo BTW here is one I took last time I did that kind of fishing.

Fan Tailed Blue Rainbow
You obviously have never seen my picture!!
Quote from: pocamanFred, your super flies arrived this morning, quite the thing for the back end I would think, when the fish are after fry.
Most kind of you Steve, but they are a bit scruffy as I did not have much spare tying time. They are in fact good at all times of the year, fished on the tail with a floating line is my normal method. The glass bead makes it go down like a stone. First outing this year in March I got a dozen fish, I seem to remember that 10 of them fell to this fly. It?s a modified from a pattern that I got from Allan, although tied much smaller (10).
I forgot to include a name and a pattern.
I have decided to call it ?
?Tear to a glass eye? (coz of the glass bead)
Hook :10
Thread : black or olive (does not really matter)
Head : white / pink glass embroidery bead
Tail : black Marabou ? short - < ? ?
Body : wide flat holographic tinsel
Wing : a very sparse bunch of Lurflash fine olive holographic flash bright
Perhaps we should start another thread with the patterns? As they will get lost here?
How goes the swap :?: Name and shame those who are late!!
Sorry lads for being at the tail end but its been a bit crazy at my end.
Will post tomorrow and its the Heather Fly for me this time as it was the last flee that caught me a Broonie at Loch Ba on the 6th.
All the best
Richy
HOOK SIZE 14

Cheers Steve,
Glad they made it to you without any problems. Look forward to the new arrivals.
All the best
Richy
Steve,
Do we owe you some dosh for this way of posting ? Seems a bit unfair that you are left with footing the bill for the Fly Swap. :( :(
We could send you some dosh or buy you some beer at the next meet !!
All the best and not going to work till the postie comes. 8)
Richy
Postie delivered this morning. Another 8 Boaby Dazzlers for the box.
Thanks again Steve for all your efforts in putting this together.
All the best
Richy
PS The postie asked me if I wanted to buy some extra flees from Moray.....
Flies arrived today. Crackers, particularly liked your wee emerger Allan, it looks as though it would work just about anywhere. I'll give it a whirl on Teusday for some stockies (if it's warm enough!!)
Your owed a beer for the postage pocaman!!
Tight lines
Peter
Thanks to all of you for some great flies and a special thanks to Steve for organising it and sending mime in that natty sterling silver presentation box
Quote from: pocamanThe box cost me a mint :D

I was disappointed you had omitted to have it engraved though.
Gunmetal buzzer, I tend to fish it static, or at least don't retrieve and let the wind do the buisness. That said I've had fish on it when pulled and on a couple of occasions :o ripped :o through when retrieving.
It also works as a spider with a black hackle.
Peter :)
