Title: Fly Auction For Good Cause?
Post by: Wildfisher on October 27, 2012, 04:20:37 PM
It's a while since we have done one for a good cause and it's not a bad way to while away a few hours on  winter's evening tying a few flies.

It's also a good way for we, as a well respected online wild fishing community, without doubt Scotland's absolute finest ned-free site,  :8)  to give a little back by supporting a worthy fishing related cause.

So I would suggest this:

I will donate a brand new, Caimore waterproof viewable, double sided  slit-foam box that holds 170 flies (10 rows of 17).

170 flies is far too much for such a small box, so I would suggest 8 flies  / row, making a grand total of 80 flies.

The box  is neat  4 ¼" x 3" x 1 ½ "  and fits into a shirt pocket

[attachimg=2]

If we can get 16 members  to tie 5 flies each, their choice, that would do it.

So, who's up for it?  5 flies – all the same, all different - your choice!

I'll start with 5 Naomi variations must-have killers  for burn, river and loch.

And the good cause? Well, I'm open to suggestions, but I'd suggest The Esk Rivers Trust – not for their work on posh salmon rivers, more for  their action and great effort on   the waters the ordinary working man fishes. The Wee Bervie and The Little Lunan. Both 5 quid a day venues, run by local clubs.

What do you reckon?  Just 5 Flies each!  :8)

Tiers So Far
1. admin  - 5 Naomi variants  ***
2. guest - top five from 2012 ***
3. Malcolm -  5 clyde style wets. ***
4. sewin007 - 5 Muddlers  ***
5. Mike Connor - 5 x tadpoles ***
6. Inchlaggan - 5 traditional Loch Wets- with wings  ***
7. bushy palmer - Five cdc upwings ***

9. Alan - 5 deergravey finest DHS's  ***
10. Scotfly -  5 Streaking Caddis ***
11. Keithfish -  5 loch wets claret, ***
12. Highlander -  5 traditional dries.  ***
13. Roobarb -  five Hecla's Grouse ***
14. Hopper - 5 Loch Lee Dabblers ***
15. Robbie  5  Blue Zulu's ***

Put me down for 5 PR's- only kidding- but you are going to get traditional Loch Wets- with wings!
And I'll up the ante by adding a handmade 4 1/2 x 3 x 1" double sided, hand made, foam lined, wooden fly box.
Choice of woods is limited but up to the bidder, as is design (within limits!).
EDIT- On reflection, this option has been removed.

A tadpole pattern.

Hook size 8. Whatever pattern suits you.
Thread. Black

Tail:  Black Arctic fox with green holographic crystal flash on top
Body :  Black chenille wound "chubby"
Hackle :  Black hen  ( for a bit more movement, the flies work better with than without).

Not been about much lately or tying much either. So a good cause seems as good a way as any to get back into the swing of things.
Put me down for 5 Streaking Caddis, a Scandinavian pattern I'm quite keen on.

Just as soon as you can, but yesterday would be OK.

That's why I thought of just 5 / person. It is not too demanding of time as well as allowing more members to take part.

My flees have been delivered, I have also revised my offer to make a fly box to the winning bidder's design- only because this would delay the deliver of the completed lot and the with the speed at which this auction is proceeding that would constitute and unnecessary delay.
There is now a box of mine in Admin's steely grasp- he'll advise you of his intentions I am sure.

I have received most of your flies and I must say I am impressed with the standard of tying.

You guys really are the best!

All the flies received are marked  ***    in the list of tiers names in the first post of the thread.

No great rush for the others, just when you can please.

Just an update on this. It has not been forgotten. With my moving, having to count the vast amount of money I got etc       it has been delayed and I am still waiting on a few batches of flies to arrive.  There is no rush anyway. Good things are better savoured slowly.  :D

By the way, thanks to all the members who offered additional flies. I think we probably have enough to fill the box, but will keep that option open if it's OK with you.  :D

Thanks to all those who sent flies and thanks to Ken for the great box. I got most of the flies promised, but must now close this as we obviously can't wait forever. It has already been delayed too long.  We have enough flies anyway.  :D  I'll close this thread now, get the flies sorted out and take it from there.  Thanks once again to all those who took the trouble to support this, to tie and send their flies.
