Title: Wyatt Deer Hair Wings.
Post by: Gander on February 22, 2006, 11:27:12 AM
I've been using Bob's DHS for quite a while, but I'm not sure I'm using the best winging material. I've been using a golden tan cow elk hair. I believe Bob recommends keeping the wing light in shade. Are there any better options to the elk? I've been thinking about using bleached Roe; any opinions?

For the DHE I've been using darkish Roe. Would this fly improve with a lighter coloured wing?

Gander,

I use dark roe and elk, sometimes  mix both to get a middle shade. I just cannot get  the “classic” grey deer hair anywhere right now, odd as a few years back it was all I could find!

The light elk great coz for a ? blind bugger like me it is easy to spot. I am not sure if the colour makes a lot of odds though, as the wing is really just a  float is it not?

My own preference is for dark roe, just coz I feel more confident using it on my fredhogs

I am certain others will have their own views on this.
