Title: Genetic Hackle Capes For Wet Flies
Post by: Wildfisher on March 05, 2006, 09:54:45 AM
Have been using a few of these for a while now. I am not sure about them though. Yes, for dries they are the dogs danglers, especially  with  the short barbs, makes tying tiny flies a snip. Likewise the huge length / short barb relationship makes palmering dead easy.

But I still feel that for  normal wet flies, softer Indian capes are better for throat hackles at least. I prefer the less wiry, softer barb and have got it into my head that these will produce better, more life like movement in the water.  What do you think?

By the way, for those who have not used genetics, DO NOT be put off by the price. Each cape has far more useable   hackles and I am convinced that the cost per fly is  lower with quality feathers. As I said one feather can often  be used for 2 or 3 flies.
