Has anyone ever tried tying on swimming nymph hooks? Those with the double curve. Just wondered if there are issues with hooking or the hooks holding.
this is a carp pattern with an additional tungsten keel. they're all designed to fish hook-upwards as far as I can see Robbie. with the fish coming at it from above it would make sense. unfortunately I've not had chance to test it out yet, but maybe next year in spain
You could just bend a hook yourself Robbie. But to be honest I wouldn't bother, I'm sure these things please the eye of the angler more than they do the eye of the fish. As far as hooking and holding go I now look for as wide a gape in relation to shank length as I can practically get. Since doing this I now lose fewer fish.
Just been tying recently with the Fulling Mill Grab Gape barbless. Very much like what you have just said Fred.

Fulling Mill Grab Gape barbless.
Superb hooks. The only make of hooks I really don't like are Partridge, they have constantly let me down. OK for bandies.
Never used them either, could see how they would work though if they impart a wee wiggle, 'if' being the operative word!
Fulling mill and kamasans are as good and reliable as anything, partridge i definately think your paying for the advertising, I found their dry fly hooks rubbish, didn't like the shape and the shanks were as weak as vegetarians piss!

they held in pretty high regard by certain sponsored tiers, i'm led to believe
You can get sponsored for tying??!!
I'll happily sit in a branded hat while I tie ma flees if it gets me a few quid/some free feathers
I inherited a couple of packets of these and always planned to tie some gadgers with them.
I'll get around to it someday.
I don't remember the make but I'll check tonight.
Billy
You can get them from Lathkill.

Personally I would just bend a longshank hook.

unfortunately there isn't a tongue-in-cheek smiley, Andy  and Fred's not rising either
Just like any sensible fish I don't rise to sponsored flies Dave, both prefer my own patterns. :8)
Note to self: must find partridge skip hat, produce hilarious new profile pic

must find partridge skip hat
If you find any partridge hooks while at the skip I'd advise you to leave them there.
I was thinking of timing up some damsel type nymphs and thought this type of hook might provide base. Don't think I Have never knowingly use a hook that fished upside down. Had also considered that the shape may provide added "wiggle", might still give it ago.
The hooks I have seen are produced by Mustad but will have a better look for alternatives if I go ahead with this scheme.
have a look at the Tiemco 403BLJ, Robbie. only one bend, but a very decent hook. absolute bastard to dress...
These are the ones I have.
A very fine wired hook but as Dave says a bastard to tie with.
