Title: Grey Monkey
Post by: Ardbeg on August 20, 2004, 01:28:07 AM
Does anybody know the pattern for the grey monkey?  I always remember my dad going on about it but he can't recall the pattern and I fancy giving it a go.

Ah yes, an old pattern indeed, haven?t used that one for years!

Tail : barred teal
Body : rear half - yellow floss, front half grey seals fur ribbed with silver wire
Wing : pale starling or mallard
Cheeks : jungle cock
Hackle :blue dun

Often tied on wee doubles as I recall

Quote from: SandflyAn excellent fly , first came across it fishing Loch Leven many years ago .
I still use them occationaly .

Quite right Sandfly, funnily enough it?s a fly I still have in my box but seldom use it now for some reason. It used to be a great favourite on the big Irish Loughs but I read recently it?s not used so much there either nowadays.

Funny that eh? Fly fashions I guess.
