Title: Lapwing tail feathers
Post by: SoldierPmr on March 18, 2018, 09:40:13 PM
Out on the marshes on Saturday I came across the remains of a lapwing and i took its tail feathers. Any ideas what could be tied up with them?

Not sure what colour they are. Obvious first choice would be wet fly wings. Assuming they are quite dark perhaps you use them for wing buds on a nymph, ala Oliver Edwards Beatis pattern.

Not aware of any "named" flies that use Lapwing but there may well be a "local" pattern ie Clyde Style or North Country Pattern that may have a fly or two with a Lapwing feather. Other than that as what Robbie says.

Tight Lines

Worth trying to wind them on like you would with pheasant tail, could make nice body depending on the fibre length.

Well with the white brown and greenish black sheen I thought I would maybe try streamers with them. Cheers guys

The wing coverts make a lovely webby black spider with a subtle irridescent sheen. Not sure about the tail feathers though. The bird I got given - I only kept the wings sadly.
