This fly has only 3 materials: a hook, tying thread, and deer-hair.
It takes some practise to do this, a good vacuum-cleaner and maybe a bunch of flowers to make the lady of the house forgive you..... this incredible mess..... 8)
Step 1 is to set up the tying thread, on pic 1 I use white thread to show the wide turns over the shank of the hook, with the thread over the shank. This will prevent the hair from turning round the shank and slip down the shank to the bend.
Pic 2 shows the deer-hair in position, after using a hair-stacker to even-up the tips.
Wind the thread to the bend, securing the hair on top of the shank. Than wind it back to the eye.
Securely trim the excess.
Fold the wing over the body, and secure it as shown in the picture.
Whip-finish, use a wee drop of cement to secure the know, and the fly is finished.
It will give a great silhouet, especially in darker situations, in evenings.
