Last year when I was fishing Backwater and the Heather Fly 'were on', I found this one worked very well. Sorry, no photo - I need to get tying.

Hook - size 12.
Tag - Red floss silk ribbed with nylon.
Body - Black seals fur.
Body Rib - Pearly mylar.
Legs - Knotted natural pheasant tail - 6 of them.
Hackle - Black cock.

I'll be tying soon and I'll put up a photo when I do some of these

Here is a wee suggestion for a simple wingless version of mine that works well when they get blown on the loch.

Basically a palmered Black Pennel with a front hackle of red
I think it is important to incorporate the red somewhere to imitate The Heather Fly.

Thanks for that, will try that,it's a bit of an experiment, will see what the fish think.I didn't have any red seals fur so I put a bit of red thread over the black fur to create the similar finish.Hackles are a bit of mystery too, they seem to be getting a bit better with each attempt.

Na, they cannae count Burnie. Two legs is even enough. I start with six because the legs get chomped and it therefore takes longer to get down to two.
