I use the orange pearsalls from time to time for spinners and spiders. I bought a new pearsalls orange gossamer and noticed it was completely different to the original. Having taken time out from fly fishing between age 15 and 40, I still had a couple of bobbins of the old stuff, (now about 34 yrs old), it is much richer and turns red-chestnut when wet, the new pearsalls orange changes colour when wet but is like comparing real seals fur with the synthetic stuff. Anyone know of an alternative ?

I noticed the same with the primrose. Like you I still had some of the old wooden bobbins. I know its silk but it should be the same. Other than the confidence factor not sure it makes a difference though, maybe!!!!.

cheers

Your probably right Paul, the old colour is much richer but no idea if the fish can tell the difference, would make an easy experiment on a spider cast next season though :).
