Outside shot maybe, but have any of you guys used this stuff for tying seatrout flies at all?Tricky stuff to mount on the hook, though it does look nice once its on.

I have :)

Take the core out of it as far as the length of body you want.

Lay down a base of white floss to a general fish shape tapering front and back leaving room to tie the hackle and wing on.

Leave a length of tying thread at the tail and finish off at the head and cut the thread.

Ease the mylar over the body and tie down at the tail, trim the collar or leave it as part of the tail and trim the thread.

Gently pull the tubing taught around the body and tie down with thread, trim the excess tubing and tie in hackle and wings and finish the fly.

You can use some head cement on the tail binding when you do the head if you feel like it.

When tying in the floss body you can make it as fine or bulky as necessary although the bulkier the easier the tubing lies along the body.

I've used it mainly on tube flies though but I did one or two flies with it. The tubes were easier to tie :)

Don't worry, be happy.

thanks Sandy,I've not bought any tube tying stuff yet, though I may try some of the smaller ones, any recommendations??

Take one cotton bud, remove the cotton wool. Stick a darning needle into one end of the tube and heat gently with a lighter or match and the end should bell out. Keep turning the tube as you remove it from the needle as it cools so that it doesn't stick or seal up. Cut to length and do the same with that end. Put the darning needle into the jaws of the vice and push the plastic tube onto it until it is tight. Start tying your first lightweight tube fly :) The tubes and gear I have were bought some twenty years ago so I don't know what the best ones are at the moment although I would think most are of a sameness.
