Thanks Highlander it was just one of those little things that I had tried to find out about.
I do use both styles in my tying which are variants using Orkney peach instead of orange and also a bearded hackle of blue jay and find them very effective on a few of the lochs I fish and the sea trout love them also  :D

Taff Price gives the palmered version as a trout fly.
Terry Hellekson gives a non-palmered version as a salmon fly.
