This was developed from the old Clyde standard by Ian Paterson of Harthill.  Use it from the middle of August until the end of the season.  Like the original it is a tail fly - it doesn't work in any other position.  Tie it very straggly - not a "tourist fly".  Size is important, always a size 10 although sometimes we use a lightly leaded 10 longshank.  I find Fulling Mill Scorpion hooks have a slightly longer shank that suits this fly very well.  Sorry for the quality of the picture - waiting for insurance settlement to buy a new and better camera.

Thread - Black or dark brown
Hook - size 10 - Fulling Mill Scorpion
Tail - Soft red game hackle
Body - Peacock herl
Rib - Fine silver
Wing - Magpie tail from the green side of the tail - rolled
Hackle - Straggly black cock

I tied a couple of these up last night and used them today at Hillend Loch. Glad to report I had success in conjunction with an intermediate line.
Its always pleasing when a fly is recommended to you and you have success with it, cheers.
You can see my tying of this fly in my virtual fly box area of the forum.
