Back in September up in Caithness, Hamish (Sheilfisher) told me of this new material he was using called “Ice Dubbing”. Said it beat the pants off peacock herl etc. Anyway, I bought a load of stuff in for the online shop  last autumn,  including a material  called “Ice Yarn”. Not sure if this is the same thing, but it is a fabulous, versatile material. As the name suggests it is a yarn. It’s 2 ply and for big flies it can be would on directly. However, the real beauty of it is it can be teased off and used as light weight dubbing for small flies.  It dubs DEAD easily. This stuff has great potential for making flies with light, translucent bodies. Earlier this evening I  tied some spiders with it and although the scan does not do justice to the translucency of the bodies, it gives some idea. I am really looking forward to trying flies tied with this stuff dung the coming season. I comes in a host of colours, black, olive, red, orange, yellow etc.
