Hello

i have tried to tie flies and i'm sure given practice i could probably get a lot  less crap than i am- which means i would still be very bad indeed . the problem is the time i haven't got to practice, and the fact that i get so few days to fish (9 so far this year,  but only 3 in total in 2014!!!) i'd like to be fishing with flies i'm confident in.

so...any good options for buying flies or getting some tied for me?

some of the  flies i use most often  do not seem to be sold by any of the online shops: i use DHSedges of the wyatt style , and DHE's .....in various dressings. i also find many standard patterns from mail-order sites are so badly tied i'd rather pay someone to tie them for me.

i had a fabulous stock provided by Mark/Buzzfly who i met here on the forum but i think he has retired. and i'm running low now

all help and advice would be  gratefully appreciated

I would offer to do this myself for you but I have a queue of people waiting which seems to be getting larger rather than smaller. This is further complicated by my teaching and guiding along with my regular job.  You could try asking Dennis Shaw who ties exceptional fishing flies. I don't know however if he ties flies to order although he used to. I would suggest that you ask him yourself.  He posts on here occasionally as Scotfly.  Failing this you could try Alun Rees in South Wales. He specialises in sea trout patterns but has the wherewithal to tie just about anything. He does tie stuff up on a semi commercial basis but he does have a full time job so you would really need to ask him. Sea trout season is now going at full belt in South Wales so i strongly suspect that you would need to wait for him also. Anything I did for you would need to be after the salmon season closes and even then I could not commit to you now to do them as I never seem to stop for five minutes anymore.

Not custom tying as such but a couple of commercial companies that are "good"

Selectafly who sell Fulling Mill flies
http://www.selectafly.com/
& Caithness Flies
http://www.caithnessqualityflies.co.uk/
though the latter is mainly geared towards the traditional market.
Flies that I have seen from them are pretty good tying & usually true to pattern.
You will pay around £1-£1.50 for a "good" fly. Plenty cheap stuff out there but afraid you get what you pay for
