So, if u were allowed just one fly, irrespective of weather etc what would it be.

No alteration or IF, WHEN and all that bollocks.

4 categories and since this is my thread I will start.

Loch for trout : Kate McLaren
Loch for silver :Camasunary Killer
River for silver : orange and yellow cascade
River for trout : don't do it so no comment

All of the above: Peter Ross
'til a voice as bad as conscience,
rang interminable changes,
on an everlasting whisper,
day and night repeated so-
"Something hidden, go and find it,
Go and look beyond the ranges,
Something lost beyond the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you,
Go."

I've caught more fish on a Wickhams Fancy than any other fly, Kate McLaren is my top fly on Lochs though. A Stoats tail for silver tourists

We have a local history group around here that meets monthly on a particular topic. Once it was fishing. Much of the audience were over 70 and I doubt that much of their fishing was with permission. Trout and silver, river and loch were all up for discussion. History, traditions, legends, stories were the order of the day, only the occasional fact. Choice of flee was of little interest to the organiser, but I asked the question- Black Pennel.
