Intrigued by the series of posts on creativity in flydressing I opened up John Roberts "Worlds Best Trout Flies" looking to see what made a fly original when my eyes fell on thiis description of how to tie The Thong by Paul Marriner.

"Begin by calculating the the size of the foam necessary to float the hook......The simplified formula I developed by calculation and experiment is V + (W x 0.00004)/60 where v is the volume of the foam in cubic inches and W is the weight of the hook in milligrams...." etc.

Ye gods!
There's nocht sae sober as a man blin drunk.

And as it also depends how much you compress the foam when tying, it is all a bit meaningless :?
