Hi folks,

In the style of Blue Peter ,here's one I tied earlier :-

Nah not really..I can just about tie my laces never mind flies

There was a load of these flying about when I was fishing Gladhouse today, didn't really see any fish rising to them, although I think Stoneflies hatch at the shore?. Anyway what artificials are there to represent Stoneflies?

Cheers

Stuart

PS - Totally blanked at Gladhouse today, hence no post on the subject!. The one other boat that was out had nine fish :(

Fishtales

That isn't a Stonefly, it is an Alder Fly or Orl as they were called at one time I believe :)

I have never seen a fish take one although i have heard that fish will take the nymph as it crawls ashore to pupate.

This is a Stonefly.

Harpo, as Sandy said that fly in the photo is not a stonefly - it's a  sedge. Sedges hold their wings tent shaped along the back, on stoneflies they lie flat. I have NEVER seen fish taking stonefly adults  and that might just be because they seldom seem to hatch in large numbers and the fish don't switch on to them - where I fish anyway!

bloody hell lug, that's some realistic tying

An Alder isn't a sedge, Fred :) Sedges have hairy wings, an Alder doesn't. It is actually related to Lacewings.

didn't know that Sandy. This forum is a mine of info.

I've seen trout hammering yellow sallies, but never the big spring stonefly, Perla Maxima.

Harelugs stoneflies are lovely, eh? The trout don't think so, because I've never known him to catch on them :D Maybe that's because they take so long to tie, he hardly ever uses them :D

Harelug - they are very nice flies you've tied, too good to get wet !

That's topical Col, as I'm off to fish the Braan on Monday !

Well I dunno about Gadgers on the Braan, but I've certainly seen a few Gadgies by the WOL
