Hi Col,

Being a staunch traditionalist/ sanctimonious puritan I do.

I quite like the effect. I don't think the fish could tell however if you just laid a base of the orange thread lightly dubbed with mole ( being a staunch traditionalist  I think Rusty Brown Uni-Thread makes for a nice dull orange, as here) and ribbed it in close turns with the purple (Uni-Thread again here). I use 6/0 Uni-Thread, so I suppose doing it the latter way would help make for a slimmer body on an 18 hook. I think the thicker thread makes for a better segmented effect than the 8/0 guage.

And you (if you use it)?

Cheers,

Wildfisher

so what's the pattern for the dark watchett?

Hook: 14-18
Thread: orange
Body: orange and purple thread twisted together, with a little mole fur
Hackle: dark grey soft hackle
Head : orange thread

Various versions exist for the (Little) Dark Watchet/ Watchett (hmmm... think this has come up before here :worms) but they're all broadly alike, for the hackled spider anyway.
