Fibbet tail fibres

I've been sitting tying a few flys up tonight, including some cdc olives which have fibbet tails, it is tricky to get them to sit correctly, but they do look good once they are in place. My question is though, do you think they necessary or is there a easier alternative that is just as good?

The really lazy way to tie in splayed tails is to tie in more than you need, splay them with your thumbnail, take a turn of thread underneath them,then one or two over to fix it in place. Then remove the fibres you don't want with scissors, as close as you can go. I much prefer Coq de Leon fibres to Microfibbets, though they're not cheap.
