I bought a pair of winging pliers in a local tackle shop. I could not make head nor tail of them, far less wing.

I seem to remember they quickly winged their way into the bin

I take it Peter, given all that gear, that you have a dedicated tying area?

It's no wonder you do so well in the tying competitions. You obviously take it more seriously than me. Then again, who doesn't?

For anyone going to the Don stravaig, Peter's (Rabbitangler) fMarch brown emerger was top fly for me last year.

Protect the edge.

Instead of nylon you can also use a foam post (no need for a gallows tool) and the foam adds a bit floatation at the right spot.  I tied a few in the past but felt the catch rate didn't warrent the time spent tying.
