Saw a recipe in a recent T&S for a bumble pattern that substituted dyed blue grizzle hen cape for blue jay. I was keen to find a supplier of this because I find tying with blue jay a pain in the arse - I've tried stripping the fibres and tying them in first over the eye and stroking them back at the end of the tying, a la Stan Headley's recommendations, and I've tried stripping one side of the feather to make it easier to tie in but I'm never satisfied with the results of either method. Liked the look of the results of using blue grizzle hen and it's got to be easier to tie with. Don't suppose anyone out there might know of a supplier?

Thanks in advance for any help/thoughts

Nick

Nick,
Try contacting lakeland flytying and ask about the Brahma hen capes.

..............................

They are notorious for not having their website up to date so try calling them.

Been using the blue brahma capes for a couple of years and they are good

Not so much as 'out of date' rather 'out of stock', veeeeeeeeeeeeeery frustrating

However, Malcolm gave me a bag of mixed feathers thats includes some blue that I will be able to use...maybe you could let me know what they were Malcolm  :?
good stuff guys

Gavin,

Sorry I can't remember. There were certainly some blue hackles. If there are blue striped feathers those will be jay, if the feathers look as if theyve got little craters on them then they'll be dyed blue Gallena.

Highlander

Dyed Blue Partridge gives a nice effect rather than the harsher dyed Blue Guinea Fowl.
Cookshill will spply them. Better still try & master the Jay.
