Or indeed the tag end of the tying thread. It vanishes too and is very tough.

The idea of the fluorocarbon is that it is opaque and very light as opposed to thread or wire.

A single strand of twinkle (usually brown or olive) incorporated into a corded chenille of peacock herl works pretty well for me on several flies. It compliments the irridescence of the herl quite nicely. GSP threads work well if you want something finer and less obvious.





I don't really use ostrich herl very much.
