Title: Minins
Post by: Clan Ford on June 07, 2008, 10:22:55 PM
Was up Loch Turret today, fishing was slow but managed a few half punners.  However, I spent a goods deal of my time exploring a couple of streams that came into the loch.  Both were really small and not full at all but they come down a fair gradient with lots of bubbly wee pools.  Every wee pool held its shoal of minins, even the ones some 30 yards above the loch.  I am assuming that they must run the burns to spawn but its the first time I've come accross this behavior, usually the minins I've noted spawning in lochs are quite happy on the gravel beds at the edge.  I've attached a few photos - the males especially look great in their spawning garb.
