Title: March Brown Spider
Post by: scotfly on January 19, 2009, 10:46:21 PM
Just finished a few of these for a swap on another board, and of course, I had to do a sbs of it.
The dubbing is light blend of hare?s mask with a touch of orange in it, I blended it so long ago I can?t remember the ratio, but hey ho that?s half the fun of being a disorganised idiot!

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK - Drennan wet fly supreme #14
THREAD - Orange UTC70
HACKLE - Partridge
RIB - Yellow Pearsall?s
BODY - Blended Hare's mask (with a hint of orange)

STEP 1
Attach the thread near the eye.

STEP 2
Prepare a suitable Partridge hackle and tie in close to the eye.

STEP 3
Wrap the thread to a point opposite the barb, catching in the ribbing silk as you go.

STEP 4
Apply a generous pinch of dubbing to the thread.

Then wrap to form the body.

STEP 5
Follow with the rib.

STEP 6
Wind the hackle and tie off.

STEP 7
Finally, form a small head, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.
