As the brown trout season has ended I thought it might be time to start another fly swap.
I am looking to hold an auction at the end of the swap with the money going towards the running of this site.
If you have entered before you will know how it works, but I would like to see some new faces as well so here is how they usually work.
Tie one copy of your fly for everyone who takes part, add some extra's for the auction, send them to me I will divide them up and send you back a fly from each tyer.
No theme for this one, just send whatever you decide
If you want to enter just reply to this thread and start tying :)
In the last couple of swaps I have asked you to include a ?1 entry fee as a site donation, this time how about if you send 6 or more extra flies entry will be free?
Please include a stamped addressed envelope so that I can send you the swapped flies.
OK, I'm in. Big ugly foam ant I suppose.
Alex
I'm up for it too - count me in.
Ian
I'm in and will tie some extra for the auction

Count me in.
Cheers
Paul

Hello Steve,
I don't tie quick enough to tie that many for a swap, but, if it's OK, can I send you half a dozen say, to include in the auction ?.
Tony
bugger Hans beat me to it - Hans you tie wee klinks, I'll tie big ones :D
LOL Tony, guid tae c ye here....
Slainthe, Hans.
You've got 54 days to tye them Tony, that works out at half a fly a day :) Like Hans, I don't require a fly set back so that is an extra set of flies for the auction :)

Tell you what I'll do:
Tony ties the klinks in whatever size, and I will tie a set of wee fly that I designed last summer in Norway and that seduced loads of grayling and broons....
It's called the Croteero.... for what it's worth....
Cheers, Hans.
Sorry Steve, missed this - been away for THREE DAYS for gods sake!!!!!!! :D :D. As promised though I'll fire a few to you for the auction.
Peter :(
I'm doing Black Spider variant with gold head for early Lochs and rivers. Proved a killer on the high lochs at the Crask.
Sandy B.O.
Thats a lot of flies
I'll tie a wee flashback nymph which has been deadly for me this season.
Cheers
Paul

paul
i am doing some irish cormorant things i seen dave mcphail doing. no tried them for browns but had a few bows on them. looks a better brownie flee though.
I'll do the Synthetic Sedge which just another name for an inorganic F Fly
so how many are tying now?
Bloody hell Davy, I haven't even started - will have to get the vice out ver the weekend. I've still got two days brown trouting left though Season ends England on my local moorland waters 12th. 8)
Sandy B.O.
Steve.I've tied olive f-flies and palmered march browns for the auction .will post this week sometime
cheers Garry
That's 30 size 14 Synthetic Sedges tied .......... it was lo.......................ng day :D
have also chucked in an extra 25 trad. loch style wets etc as additional auction flies
gink the wing of the SS, wet the body floats like a cork and is easy to see. It catches fish and is a low maintenance, no hassle fly to fish. A good olive imitation.

Well done Gavin
Davie
They look dandy to me Gav, looking forward to wetting one of those in the spring.
Should have mine done by Friday Steve - will post to you over the Weekend.

QuoteOi! Hang on!!! There I was having a read of the thread to see what I'd missed out on and my name is on the list (and with only one E as well ), how did that happen???
I thought you had given up fishing  when I saw that, Andy :)
I've tried tying various things but given up after half a dozen of each (I
hate tying flies). I'll try something very simple tonight.
Alex
Only just realised what I've signed up for. 33 flees  This is my first time in the fly swap. I'll start tying this weekend but I suspect it will take a couple of sessions. I'll do some parachute flees used on my beloved Clyde.
Anyway a deal's a deal so better get started.
paul
QuoteGrayling take anything as long as it looks like it fell out a poofs handbag.
Flying condoms then?
Alex
Andy, you tie a bonny flee. There really are some first rate tiers on here.
A number of these are winging their way over to the address provided:
Cheers, Hans

That's what's wrong with our economy, Hans has taken all the cash back to Germany !
Nice Flies Hans, since I don't tie flees (yet) and if they would be welcome, i'll donate a pait of surgical grade quality scissors that Hans gave me, you can cut individual hairs on your arms with them  ideal for fly tying, i'm best not having sharp objects around me :D
I am not German mate...... Dutch please! :D
Cheers, Hans.

cheers Garry
Glad the flees arrived safely, with modern postal services you never know.....
Cheers, Hans.
I've no even started yet...
Steve,
25 done so far should be able to finish the last few of tonight and get them in the post. Just realised that the wee beads are going to add up and the buggers will want more money  for the postage.
At least their machine will not be able to crush them like everything else .
Sandy B.O.
Got my mayfly emergers going at a couple a night. Should be finished in a week or so.
Malcolm,
I've noticed that the standard of Flies has improved as I'm going along - just like being back at school and practicing my tables.  Nicer in some respects though as the headmistress keeps coming in and forcing me to inbibe single malt 8).
Sandy B.O.
I'm having to put about 1 in 4 aside as unacceptable! Never mind I'll keep these for myself, they catch more fish!
Steve,
Mine are all done now, can you PM your address for posting, they are all Black Spider Gold heads on Wide Gape Barbless hooks.
Sandy B.O.
I'm away all week too so PM your address and I should be able to send mine off when I get back.
Here is what you'll be getting from me: this was one of 4 flies which we tied up for the Mayfly hatch on Merkland when we went to Corriekinloch for the first time in 2005. The first fly was the Edie variant in the fly database and this is the second, the emerger . This fly is very easy to tie. It uses only 3 materials DMC gold thread, deer hair and an olive hackle which is short in the fibre. I use a whiting saddle which gives about 5 flies for every hackle.
[attachimg=1]
the fly itself is fished with the bottom fibres clipped away in calm conditions but in a wind leave the whole hackle on or else it will sink.
The fly is very easy to tie but for the beginners i'll say that keeping deer hair together is not straightforward. what to do is to take 2 or 3 light turns when tying it on before compressing the deer hair otherwise it will flare. It is very effective indeed.
[attach = 2]
I really like the style of tying Malcolm. I should think the tippet sits well proud of the water. Think i'll tie some up with a yarn wing.
Alex
Just finished my 27 flees and put some others in for the auction. Thank god thats a wieght of ma mind. never tied 30 odd flees in one sitting before.
Finally completed and posted off my flees. 33 wee flashback nymphs, very scruffy and poorly tied, but trout and grayling love them.
Also included a set of pike flies for the auction. They are pretty basic, but all are tried and tested patterns which catch fish. They might be useful for a forum member who is just starting out fly fishing for pike.
Cheers
Paul
Steve
Flies posted today , recorded delivery. There is a letter in the box with the flies so you know they are mine :)
What a job I had to get them done. Tenerife for a week, came home and stripped a bedroom for decorating, fried the motherboard on my main computer (I think, it might be the processor or the graphics card but haven't had time to look), stripped down the computer work station so that it can be moved and lifted a carpet so the carpet fitter can lay the new carpet on Thursday. Roll on Christmas :)
Sorry mine are gonna be a bit late, I will post them off on monday, sorry for holding everyone up.
I think I'm going to treat mself to nice new wee flybox - I'm calling it - the FFF Forum Free Flies. I'll use these patterns as a priority bound to up my catch rate with so many bankers :D.
Steve will need a bottle just to keep him from insanity .
Sandy B.O.
I eventually got around to posting mine. Sorry for being so late, chaps.
Alex
QuoteAlex, your superb flies arrived today
:roflmao
Alex
Steve, have mine arrived yet?
Malcolm
Steve,
If mine haven't arrived tomorrow, I'll send you the details, they often take a little longer from here compared to Glasgow but they should have arrived by now.
Malcolm
Steve,
I cast to rising fish with these, The Edie variant in the Fly database is often my other fly although sometimes I use it in conjunction with a mayfly nymph. They were tied for fishing on Shin, Ghriam and Merkland and when the mayfly are really on there plenty of targets!
