Whilst not a great fan of community buyouts (based on what I see going on), the Bernera carry on demonstrates the need to boot out bad estate owners. The problem here is not money. It is the unwillingness of the SG to change legislation that is allowing the owner to resist every move to force him out (goodness knows why).
Then we have the Scottish Land Commission, a group of serial troughers (it was an eye opener reading up on their experience) with little real world experience making policy on land reform. Led by a certain Mr Thin, the same Mr Thin that tried to get the way fisheries managed changed....(say no more). The SLC have put together some mince and somehow managed to overlook crofting in their deliberations. It is a funny world we live in.

There are certainly some bad landowners but the whole community buyout thing seems to have run into the buffers. Certainly the SG's attention seems to have moved on to more fluffy and cuddly initiatives as we saw down in Egypt at FLOP27. Can't spend the same  £ twice in Pakistan and Bernera let alone on the people of Glasgow Southside with their lowest life expectancy in Europe.

It's a modern day Monty Python sketch but it's what happens when the same politicians have been in power too  long whether it be Holyrood, Westminster or Tehran. Shambles.
