I always take a wee skillet pan with me and have a few for my tea in the hills. Fresh cooked trout and fresh bread plastered with butter, heaven. I you've never tried it you have been missing something. I've no hesitation in knocking a few on the head to eat, but only enough for a good feed. Give it a go.

i usually take my little smoker to hill lochs. i can fill it with other stuff i need (far too many fly boxes, etc etc) so its just a bit of extra weight and not dead space in the pack, and i think a 10-12oz hot smoked  trout with a squeeze of lemon and twist of salt and pepper is about as good as it gets

You just beat me to it BZ :)

I like to eat a trout at the lochside now and again; for me the best taste is from one cooked in the battered old Abu smoker I inherited. Fresh caught trout out of the smoker is sublime.

All these tasty sounding cooking suggestions is making my mouth water. This weekend could see my trout eating virginity lost.....only at the right time, place and the with right fish of course!!!!
