I have it as Grey Birch, Aethalura punctucata, the local habitat is correct but it is a bit early (photographed this morning).

'til a voice as bad as conscience,
rang interminable changes,
on an everlasting whisper,
day and night repeated so-
"Something hidden, go and find it,
Go and look beyond the ranges,
Something lost beyond the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you,
Go."

After looking through my book I would agree with that.
Don't worry, be happy.

We get them about, we are surrounded by birch, but not usually until the birch leaves are out and the are only just starting.
The warm spell at the end of March must have brought them forward.
'til a voice as bad as conscience,
rang interminable changes,
on an everlasting whisper,
day and night repeated so-
"Something hidden, go and find it,
Go and look beyond the ranges,
Something lost beyond the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you,
Go."
