Daughter lives and works in Beverley, between York and Hull. Bird in garden, size and shape and brown mottled colouring of hen blackbird. Reddish orange/gold top of head and pale small bib. Any ideas????

I think probably too small Sandy. She made no mention either of side bars saying it was just a browny mix.

Looking through the pictures not all of them have the side colouring, just the red cap.

Like this one.

Don't worry, be happy.

I know this is an old thread but I have been using a new app on my phone called Merlin.

https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/

Point the camera in the direction of the bird calls and press record and it will ID each individual species within range. I have been using it over the past few days and it works extremely well :)

I have been using Merlin ID for quite a while. The sound section is a more recent addition.
The Sunbird Bird ID is also a good one for the groupings it uses.

I'm a big fan of Merlin I use it almost daily at work. The sound ID works 95% of the time
