Title: Fuzzy Pheasant Tail Nymph
Post by: scotfly on September 13, 2009, 07:09:16 PM
In the dubbing techniques (http://www.wildfisher.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=11416.0)  post in the section titled ?not a loop? I highlighted a technique whereby I used Pheasant tail fibres in the same way as a dubbing loop. This is a sbs of the fly using this technique.
Although this one hasn?t seen any action yet I can?t see a nymph utilising pheasant tail and hare?s ear not working, can you? The technique, I think, is certainly worth some exploring.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Niche N530 #10
THREAD ? Olive UTC 70
TAIL ? Olive Dyed Pheasant Tail Fibres
BODY - Olive Dyed Pheasant Tail Fibres and Hare?s Ear
THORAX COVER - Olive Dyed Pheasant Tail Fibres
THORAX ? Olive Hare?s Ear Blend

STEP 1
Attach the thread and wrap to the mid point of the hook.

STEP 2
Tie in the PT fibres for the tail.

STEP 3
Tie in four PT fibres for the body, taking the thread to the thorax area.

STEP 4
Split the PT fibres in two, then insert a noodle of hare?s ear dubbing between them. Then grip the PT fibres in your hackle pliers. I use rotating hackle pliers, but you can do it with ordinary hackle pliers too, or a pair of forceps.  (Haemostats)

Then twist the PT fibres and hare?s ear into a dubbing rope.

STEP 5
Wrap the rope to form the body.

STEP 6
Tie in another bunch of PT fibres for the thorax cover.

STEP 7
Split the thread and insert an olive hare?s ear dubbing noodle.

STEP 8
Spin it into a rope and wrap to form the thorax.

STEP 9
Pull the PT fibres over and tie down to form the thorax cover. Whipfinish and detach the thread.

STEP 10
Finally, varnish the head, then give the whole fly a rub with Velcro for the finished fly.
