This looks like exactly what I am after. Is there anything like this club closer to Aberdeen? I did hear a rumour of something in Turrif but can't find anything about it.
Sadly nothing like that up here Albert (that I know of at least). You should ask on the Abedeenshire forum they used to have the odd meeting I think. It's worth asking. They might know about the Turriff club if it got off the ground, I have no idea.
I asked about it there admin but no one seemed to know much I was however to put onto one of the sites owners called Ben who might be able to help. I'll get back in touch with him next time I'm on there and get his phone number from the pm he sent me.
Best of luck to you then Albert! If you need any more help just ask.
I have split this into an new topic as it really has nothing to do with Glasgow Casting Club.
Well it does seem as if my options have been curtailed Alan. The Aberdeenshire forum seems to have removed me and all my posts. Weird what did I do to deserve that? It looks like help from there is not an option now not sure I'd want it now anyway. Does anyone know any other instructor's up here?
Sorry to hear that Albert but we really don't want to discuss other web sites that have nothing to do with us here. I know there are some instructors in the Aberdeen area. Is it single or double handed casting you want to learn? Have you checked the ADAA website?
How abut this guy?

It may also be worth contacting rabbitangler who is a member here

Peter is a qualified instructor in the "southern north east" and may be able to offer you some advice.
Hope this is of some help. :D
Fair enough admin I won't mention it again and thanks a lot for the helpful information.
Albert,
The NE casting club that already exists is at the Turriff angling association and is run by Turriff Tackle. I believe that it is the first Sunday in every month at 0930 but check with The organiser.
Malcolm
Thank you! What a pity our locals could not be so friendly and helpful.
Albert,
Frank at Turriff Tackle is a good bloke
Here's his site, contact him and he'll keep you right.

a live broadcast casting club would be an interesting experiment
Even the very thought makes me shudder. The prospect of you and Alex being caught on film on a Sunday morning after the night before is dreadful.

a fine compliment to my new 100' long mirror that lets you see your self cast for the first time in the history of learning things you cant see.
Presumably you'd have to look sideways to see it? I've seen the effect on your casting of turning your head and I'm sure it's the same with mine.
If you shake your head rapidly from side to side does this produce a decent slack line cast? :D

it struck me that everyone knows what a nice cast looks like, yet when we practice or fish we dont cant see our own to draw comparisons, a camcorder can work but by the time you see it the moment is gone, a mirror lets you make corrections immediately.
What if the instructor just demonstrates what is correct, what the student is doing wrong and what he should do to correct it? Or would that be too simple? :?

Fred, don't burst his bubble. Alan clearly has another business idea involving the production of 100 foot mirrors :)
Alex
As it happens, I often face a full length mirror and try to train my rod hand so that the tracking is spot on, so I agree with Alan on this.
Alex.

sorry to mention it but i'm shocked at the spontanious banning,
Just to be clear no one has been banned from here Alan. It was another forum. Every forum regime is different, not all are as open minded and easy going as this. Bans here are rare very rare and only ever in extreme circumstances, threatening or disruptive behaviour, passing on information that members have posted in confidence etc. How other forum admins run their sites is no business of ours.

i used to think that too  asking what the learner wants to achieve or identifying a fault is the traditional way, most dont get past this stage, but refine what they have, preferring to build on what has worked before whether it is an improvement or not, there are limitations to this method that frustrate me,
Have you considered using a laser guidance device? All serious casting instructors should have one.
Alex and I are taking 2 to New Zealand in February.
No I am not kidding........................... :D
...just try taking one of those on a 'plane and see what happens!

Don't worry I'm used to taking care Malcolm.
Why up this way one out of place word overheard by a wee fly on the wall about Don trout and frying pans can lead to some really serious shit.
I have started making some enquires locally about setting up an Aberdeen / shire casting club. My own guess it has to be close to Aberdeen if it's got any chance of getting off the ground. I'll keep you informed if and when there is anything to keep you informed about. :D
Albert, I was at a casting day at Haddo today, seems pretty much what you want to see a few demonstrations followed by some fault finding/encouragement with a couple of instructors and a nice relaxing atmosphere similar to previous days organised by Fred at Haddo.
Pity you missed it :(
Sounds like you had a fine time rabbitangler. However I can't remember being invited and had something else on in anycase.
