An angler sat contemplating, lost very deep in thought,
how to find the quarry, which he so desperately sought?
he was fed up with dumb stockers, too easily beguiled,
so he set forth, to find at last, a fish completely wild.

Over valleys hills and dales, he sought for many a day,
but try as he might, a real wild fish, just did not come his way.
he crossed the mighty oceans, and searched from shore to shore,
but resigned at last, he ceased, the wild fish were no more.

"What happened then to all the fish? where are they now" he cried,
but his words just echoed hollowly, from every naked mountainside,
the lakes and rivers were all full, of pure man made abortions,
and nature all around as well, was full of mad distortions.

Enraged, he swore and ranted long, for many a weary week,
but this availed him naught of course, to find what he would seek,
"what will I tell my children?, how can I to them explain?",
how vain and stupid were their fathers, is all mankind insane?".

The trees are gone, the ground all ploughed, there are no fish to breed,
the cities still grow wild of course, driven by men?s awful greed,
instead of fishing nowadays, some kid?s idea of good clean fun,
is holding up a liquor store, at the point of a stolen gun.

The kids are quite wild too of course, though they care not for fishing,
why should they? When no fish are left, it is no use just wishing,
when I was young, the rivers. flowed clean and teemed with life,
but now are full of rubbish, poison and pollution has run rife.

If only we had ceased in time, recognised the awful risks we ran,
but alas most did not care, and so began the sad demise of man,
Where no trees grow, and no fish swim, no men may be found,
where no plants or bushes grow, on hard and stony ground.

Lamenting will not bring them back, they are gone for ever,
how can it be that no man knew, his own life this would sever?
uncaring, mostly ignorant, or simply lazy, stupid, disinclined,
men watched as nature slowly died, ever faster then declined

An angler sat contemplating, lost very deep in thought,
at how his poor existence with hunger now was fraught,
no fish left to catch at all, even dumb ones he could eat,
still wondering he sat and starved, bemoaning his defeat.

"How can this be? who did this thing?, who stole our precious rights?"
but nobody was listening, they were engaged in private fights.
Grubbing round for money, or even fighting for existence,
they had no time for anglers, or their obtuse persistence.

No matter where he roamed, no matter where he wandered,
men had been there before him, and wild resources squandered,
ashamed at this, and angered, he raised his face at last to God,
and having cursed him roundly, he hung up his fishing rod.
